Astros Minor League Recap: June 23rd

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (49-26) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning on a Whitcomb solo HR, his 17th HR of the season. They got another run in the second inning on a groundout. Gordon got the start and pitched well allowing 2 runs over 6 innings. In the 5th they got 2 runs on a Machado solo HR and Wagner RBI single. Wrobleski added a 2 run single in the 8th inning. The pen was great tossing 3 scoreless innings as they closed out the 6-2 win.

Note: Whitcomb has a .961 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (26-43) lost 9-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first on a Dezenzo RBI single. Guilfoil started for the Hooks and allowed 3 runs over 4.2 innings. The Hooks got another run in the 3rd on a Price RBI single. The pen struggled allowing 6 runs as theHooks dropped the series finale 9-2.

Note: Matthews is hitting .294 in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (30-36) lost 13-3 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 2nd inning on an Encarnacion 2 run HR. Guedez got the start but struggled allowing 3 runs over 3 innings. In the 4th, Guillemette added a solo HR. The pen struggled allowing 10 runs as the Dash went onto win the series finale 13-3.

Note: Encarnacion is hitting .289 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (30-39) won 5-3 (BOX SCORE

Pena started for the Woodpeckers and was great tossing 6 innings allowing just 1 run, which came in the first, and striking out 5. He only threw 67 pitches. The offense scored 3 runs in the bottom of the inning on a passed ball, an error and a Casserilla RBI double. In the 5th, Ochoa connected on a solo HR. They got another run in the 7th on a fielder’s choice. Santa went the final 3 innings allowing 2 runs but held on for the save.

Note: Pena has a 3.00 ERA this season.
