Astros Minor League Recap: June 18th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (46-24) won 10-8 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board scoring 2 runs in the 2nd inning on a Berryhill RBI single and Whitcomb bases loaded walk. The offense picked up 5 more runs in the third on an Amaya 3 run HR, Whitcomb RBI single and Wagner RBI single. Gordon got the start and went 4 innings allowing 5 runs, 4 earned. Wagner added a solo HR in the 7th. In the 8th, they got 2 runs on a Kessinger solo HR and Hamilton sac fly. The pen allowed a few runs but was able to hold on for the 10-8 win.

Note: Wagner is hitting .309 this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (25-39) won 10-1 (BOX SCORE)

Guilfoil started for the Hooks and allowed 1 run over 4.1 innings of work. The offense broke things open in the 5th scoring 7 runs on a Corona walk, Palma HBP, Brewer walk, wild pitch and a Matthews 3 run double. In the 7th the offense added 3 runs on a Dezenzo RBI double and Palma RBI single. The bullpen closed it out with 4.2 scoreless as the Hooks won 10-1.

Note: Matthews has 15 SB in 26 games this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (27-34) lost 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

Guedez started for the Tourists and allowed 2 runs over 5 innings. The pen struggled allowing 5 runs as the Dash extended their lead. The lone run for Asheville came on a Johnson solo HR in the 7th. The offense got 10 hits, but were held to the one run as they fell 7-1.

Note: Cruz is hitting .297 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (28-36) won 16-8 (BOX SCORE

Pena got the start and was solid allowing 2 runs over 4 innings while striking out 8. The offense got on the board scoring 3 runs in the second inning on a Hernandez RBI single, run on an error and a run on a groundout. They got another run in the 3rd on a Casserilla RBI single. In the 4th, they added 3 more runs on a wild pitch and a Hernandez 2 run single. After the Shorebirds rallied for 6 runs in the 5th to take the lead, the offense responded in the 6th scoring 6 runs on a Gomez RBI single, Ochoa 2 run single, Jaworsky RBI double and Casserilla 2 run double. In the 7th, Ochoa added a 3 run HR. Santa tossed 3 scoreless in relief with 5 strikeouts and Sanchez closed out the 16-8 win with a scoreless 9th.

Note: Santa has 1 BB/22 K in 12.2 innings in Single-A.
