Astros Minor League Recap: June 16th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (45-24) lost 9-2 (BOX SCORE)

Laueer started for Sugar Land and pitched really well striking out 9 over 5 innings, allowing just 1 run. Sugar Land got on the board in the second inning on a Berryhill RBI single. The pen struggled allowing 5 runs in the 6th and 2 runs in the 7th. They picked up another run in the 9th on a Kessinger RBI groundout but that would be it as Sugar Land fell 9-2.

Note: Bastidas is hitting .285 this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (24-39) lost 8-3 (BOX SCORE)

Brown started for the Hooks and allowed 4 runs over 5 innings of work. The Hooks got on the board in the 5th on an Espinosa RBI double. Ford struggled in relief allowing 4 runs and retiring just 2 batters. Correa drove in 2 runs in the 8th with a 2 run single but that was it from the offense as the Hooks fell 8-3.

Note: Strotman has a 1.88 ERA in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (27-33) won 11-10 (BOX SCORE)

True started for Asheville and struggled allowing 7 runs over 4 innings. The offense got on the board in the 3rd inning scoring 2 runs on Garcia and Guillemette RBI doubles. In the 5th, the offense rallied with an Encarnacion RBI double, Sherwin groundout and Cruz 3 run HR to take the lead. The Drive would re-take the lead scoring in the 5th and 6th. Asheville rallied getting one in the 7th on an error, another in the 8th on a Loftin groundout and a run in the 9th on an Encarnacion sac fly. Hicks went the final 5 innings allowing 3 runs, but was scoreless from the 7th on as Asheville won 11-10.

Note: Garcia is hitting .289 this season.

  • James Hicks, RHP: 5.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K (WIN)

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (27-36) won 2-0 (BOX SCORE

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first inning with a run scoring on an error. Langford got the start, making his first appearance since April 30th, and tossed 2 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. The Woodpeckers got another run in the 3rd on a Nunez RBI triple. Santos was great in relief striking out 7 over 5 scoreless innings and Mercedes closed it out with a scoreless 9th as the Woodpeckers won 2-0.

Note: Santos has 58 K in 53.1 innings this season.
