Astros Minor League Recap: June 15th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (45-23) won 14-5 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board early getting 2 runs in the first on a Leon RBI single and Whitcomb sac fly. In the 2nd inning they got 2 more runs on a Bastidas 2 run HR. Greene got the start and was solid tossing 2.2 scoreless innings. The Space Cowboys got another run in the 4th on a Hensley single. OKC rallied to tie it up at 5 in the 6th inning. In the bottom of the 7th, the offense exploded scoring 9 runs on a Hamilton RBI single, Bastidas 2 run single, Kessinger 2 run single and Whitcomb grand slam.

Note: Whitcomb has 15 HR, 59 RBI this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (24-38) won 3-0 (BOX SCORE)

Bloss got the start for the Hooks and was phenomenal again tossing 6.1 no-hit innings with 6 strikeouts. The got on the board in the 6th inning scoring 3 runs on a Price solo HR and RBI singles from Sacco and Corona. Gomez closed it out tossing 2.2 no-hit innings as he and Bloss combined to no-hit the Missions in the 3-0 win. More from Bloss on the no-hitter here.

Note: Bloss has a 1.61 ERA in Double-A.

  • Jake Bloss, RHP: 6.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 K (WIN)
  • Cesar Gomez, RHP: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K (SAVE)

A+: Asheville Tourists (26-33) lost 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Guillemette 2 run HR. Calderon started for the Tourists but struggled allowing 7 runs over 4.1 innings. Asheville got 2 in the 6th on a Deming 2 run HR. Dombroski was solid in relief tossing 3 scoreless with 2 strikeouts but the offense was unable to complete the comeback as they fell 8-4.

Note: Deming has 6 HR in his last 9 games.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (26-36) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE

The Woodpeckers scored first getting a run on a Hernandez RBI groundout in the 3rd. Tredwell got the start and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings with 4 strikeouts. He was relieved by Leach who struck out 6 allowing 1 run over 2.2 innings. The offense was quiet the rest of the way though as Fayetteville fell 2-1.

Note: Leach has 20 K in 12.2 innings this season.
