Astros Minor League Recap: June 12th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (42-23) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Gusto started for Sugar Land and pitched well allowing 2 runs over 5 innings. Sugar Land got on the board with a Loperfido RBI single in the 3rd. The pen kept the game close and in the 8th the offense rallied for 5 runs on a Hummel RBI double, Whitcomb 3 run HR and Hamilton RBI double. The pen closed out the 6-2 win.

Note: Whitcomb is hitting .297 this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (22-37) lost 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board with 3 runs in the first on a Williams 2 run triple and a Barber sac fly. Guilfoil got the start and allowed 3 runs over 4 innings. The Hooks got another run in the 4th on a Sacco RBI triple. The game went into the 7th tied at 4 but the Hooks got a run on a Cole hit by pitch. The game was tied again in the 9th but Sacco gave the Hooks the lead with a solo HR. Unfortunately the pen wasn’t able to hold it as the Hooks fell 7-6 in 10 innings.

Note: Williams has a .800 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (26-30) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Guedez got the start for Asheville and pitched well allowing 1 run on 1 hit over 5 innings of work. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Cruz RBI single, Encarnacion groundout and Matthews RBI single. Urias closed the game out allowing 1 run over the final 4 innings as Asheville won 3-2.

Note: Guedez has a 2.85 ERA this season.

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (26-33) won 8-7 (BOX SCORE

Rodriguez started for the Woodpeckers and went 4.2 scoreless innings striking out 4. The offense got on the board in the bottom of the 5th thanks to a Hernandez 3 run double. After Salem tied it in the 6th, the Woodpeckers got the lead right back on a Diaz solo HR. In the 7th, Hernandez added an RBI single. The pen was unable to hold it as the game went to extras. Salem took a 2 run lead in the 11th but the Woodpeckers responded. In the bottom of the 11th, Encarnacion connected on an RBI double and Jaworsky drove in 2 runs with a walk-off hit as the Woodpeckers won 8-7.

Note: The HR for Diaz was his first in full-season ball.
