Astros Minor League Recap: May 3rd

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (21-10) won 9-6 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first on a Bastidas RBI double. They got 2 more in the 2nd on back to back HRs from Hummel and Hamilton. In the 4th, the offense got back to back HRs again, this time from Salazar and Whitcomb. Tamarez got the start but struggled allowing 5 runs over 3 innings. In the 6th, Hamilton connected on a 2 run HR, his 2nd of the game. Whitcomb extended the lead in the 7th with a 2 run double. Contreras closed it out tossing 2 scoreless innings.

Note: Leon has a .934 OPS with 11 SB this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (8-17) won 7-0 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning scoring 2 runs on a Correa single. Rodriguez started for the Hooks and was great tossing 5 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit. The Hooks added 4 runs in the 5th on a Melton 2 run HR and Daniels 2 run HR to extend the lead. Melton added another run in the 8th with an RBI single. Robaina was dominant in relief allowing 1 hit over 4 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts.

Note: Robaina has a 1.35 ERA in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (10-14) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Hicks started for Asheville and was great allowing 1 run over 5 innings with 4 strikeouts. He was relieved by Urias who allowed 2 runs over 4 innings. The offense finally got on the board in the 8th scoring 2 runs on a Whitaker sac fly and Deming RBI single. Unfortunately the offense was unable to complete the comeback as Asheville fell 3-2.

Note: Fisher has a .967 OPS this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (15-10) lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Marte started for the Woodpeckers and allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, over 3.1 innings. Rodriguez pitched in relief allowing 2 runs over 4 innings of work. The offense was quiet on the night, though Gomez added a solo HR in the 8th. The Woodpeckers fell 5-1 in Game 4 of the series.

Note: Gomez is hitting .305 this season.
