Astros Minor League Recap: May 17th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (28-15) won 14-12 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring 4 runs on a Hamilton RBI double, Amaya 2 run double and Bastidas RBI double. They got 3 runs in the 3rd inning on a Whitcomb solo HR and Bastidas 2 run HR. In the 4th, Whitcomb added an RBI triple and Hensley had an RBI double to extend the lead. Gordon got the start and allowed 5 runs, though just 1 earned, over 5.2 innings with 6 strikeouts. Whitcomb added an RBI single in the 6th and in the 7th, the offense got 3 more on a Bastidas 2 run HR and Salazar RBI single. The Isotopes made it close scoring 7 runs off the pen but Suero tossed a perfect 9th as he picked up the save.

Note: Whitcomb has a .933 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (13-24) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Bloss got the start for the Hooks and allowed 2 hit and 2 runs over 5 innings while striking out 4. The Hooks got on the board in the 5th on a Brewer sac fly. In the 8th, Wrobleski tied the game with an RBI single. The game went to extra innings and in the bottom of the 10th, the Missions were able to walk it off with a sac fly.

Note: Bloss has a 1.06 ERA in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (15-21) POSTPONED

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (19-18) lost 8-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs on a Luciano solo HR and Bush RBI single. Tredwell got the start and went 4 innings allowing 3 runs with 4 strikeouts. The bullpen allowed another 5 runs as the Cannon Ballers took an 8-2 lead. The offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Woodpeckers fell 8-2.

Note: Chirinos has a 0.66 ERA this season.
