Astros Minor League Recap: April 28th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (19-8) won 10-5 (BOX SCORE)

Blubaugh got the start for Sugar Land and went 4 innings allowing 3 runs. Loperfido put the Space Cowboys on the board with a solo HR in the 3rd inning. In the 6th, Bastidas connected on a 2 run HR. The pen allowed a couple runs as Reno went up 5-3. In the 8th, the offense rallied for 4 runs on RBI doubles from Whitcomb, Wagner, and Salazar and an RBI single from Berryhill. The offense added insurance in the 9th scoring 3 runs on a fielder’s choice, sac fly and Hummel RBI single. Gaither and Suero had scoreless innings to close it out.

Note: Loperfido has a 1.106 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (7-14) won 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first on a Melton RBI triple. They got 2 more in the 4th on back to back homers from Melton and Corona. Ullola started for the Hooks and dominated allowing 1 hit (a solo HR) over 5 innings while striking out 7. Melton added some more runs with a 2 run double in the 7th inning to make it 5-1. Rodriguez was pitching well but ended up giving up a game tying grand slam in the 9th to force extra innings. In the top of the 10th, the Hooks rallied getting a Brewer RBI double and Hamilton 2 run single to go up 3. DeLabio tossed a scoreless 10th to close it out.

Note: Melton is hitting .370 with 3 HR, 9 RBI over his last 7 games.


A+: Asheville Tourists (9-11) won 11-6 (BOX SCORE)

Bloss started for Asheville and was great striking out 8 over 5 innings while allowing just 1 run. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Fisher 2 run HR. In the 5th, Cerny added a 3 run homer, his 4th of the year. Mancini relieved Bloss and allowed 4 runs over 2.2 innings. The game was close in the 9th but Asheville rallied for 5 runs on a Baez 2 run single and Fisher 3 run HR. Molero tossed a scoreless 9th to close it out.

Note: Fisher has a .959 OPS this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (13-8) lost 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

Pecko started for the Woodpeckers and allowed 3 runs over 3.2 innings. The offense got things going in the 4th rallying for 5 runs on a Nunez RBI single, Casserilla 2 run single, Bush RBI single and Ochoa RBI single.  Nezuh came on in relief but struggled allowing 4 runs as the Wood Ducks took the lead. The offense was unable to get anything else going as the Woodpeckers dropped the series finale 8-5.

Note: Santander has a .847 OPS this season.
