Astros Minor League Recap: April 23rd

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (15-7) won 10-9 (BOX SCORE)

Blubaugh started for Sugar Land and had his first tough outing of the season allowing 4 runs in 3 innings of work. The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Leon RBI double and Hummel RBI single. They got another in the 3rd inning on a Bastidas RBI groundout. Kennel and Mushinski went 2 innings each in relief allowing 1 run. Sugar Land was down 6-3 going into the 8th but the offense got a run on a Wagner RBI single. In the 9th, Sugar Land got a run on a wild pitch and a 3 run HR from Bastidas to take the lead. Suero allowed 2 runs as Reno tied it up in the 9th to force extra innings. In the 10th, Salazar gave Sugar Land the lead with a 2 run HR. Reno scored one run in the 9th but VanWey held on for the save.

Note: Salazar is hitting .345 this season.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (5-11) lost 9-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got their first run on a Brewer solo HR in the 2nd inning. Rodriguez got the start but struggled allowing 7 runs over 3.1 innings. The offense got 2 back in the 4th on a Melton solo HR and Arocho RBI groundout. They picked up another in the 5th on an error. Ullola pitched in relief allowing 2 runs over 4 innings of work. The offense got one more run in the 8th but that was it as the Hooks fell 9-5.

Note: Melton’s HR was his first of the season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (7-8) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board first scoring a run on a Johnson RBI single in the first. Bloss started for Asheville and went 4 innings allowing 2 runs with 7 strikeouts. Asheville retook the lead in the 4th scoring 3 runs on a Guillemette bases loaded walk and a Williams 2 run single. Mancini went 4 innings in relief allowing 1 run with 7 strikeouts. Molero tossed a scoreless 9th to seal with 4-3 win.

Note: Bloss has 17 K in 12.1 innings this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (10-6) won 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

Santander put the Woodpeckers on the board in the 2nd inning with a solo HR. Nezuh got the start and went 5 innings allowing 5 runs, all scoring in the 3rd inning. The offense tied things up in the 6th scoring 4 runs on a Daniels solo HR, a run on an error and 2 runs on an Ochoa double. Down East scored 2 in the 7th to take the lead but the Woodpeckers tied it up in the 8th on an Ochoa RBI single and Bush RBI groundout. The game went into the 9th tied 7-7 and Encarnacion drew a bases loaded walk to walk off with the 8-7 win.

Note: Jaworsky has 7 SB this season.
