Astros Minor League Recap: April 18th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (13-5) won 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

Kouba started for Sugar Land but struggled allowing 4 runs over 3 innings. The offense got on the board in the 3rd scoring 5 runs on a Bastidas RBI double, Cabbage walk, Wagner groundout and Whitcomb 2 run single. In the 6th they picked up 2 more runs on a Whitcomb solo HR and Bastidas RBI double. VanWey allowed a solo HR in the 9th but was able to hold on for the save as Sugar Land won 7-6.

Note: Whitcomb is hitting .304 this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (4-8) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Brown started for the Hooks and was dominant tossing 5 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit while racking up 10 strikeouts. The Mission picked up a run in the 7th to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 9th, the Hooks got a run on a fielder’s choice to force extra innings. The Missions took the lead in the 10th with a 2 run HR to go up 3-1. In the bottom of the 10th, the Hooks rallied getting a run on a Hamilton RBI single and a 2 runs on a walk-off 2 run single from Brewer to win 4-3.

Note: The Hooks staff racked up 16 strikeouts.


A+: Asheville Tourists (6-6) lost 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

Batista started for Asheville and went 5 innings allowing 5 runs. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Williams RBI double. In the 5th, they scored 3 runs on a Price 2 run HR and Garcia RBI double. The offense picked up another run in the 6th on a Williams solo HR. The pen struggled a bit allowing 3 runs as Rome took an 8-5 lead. The offense was unable to respond as Asheville fell 8-5.

Note: Williams is hitting .389 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (8-4) won 4-0 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first scoring a run on a Santander RBI single. In the 3rd, Santander added an RBI double. Tredwell got the start and struck out 7 over 3.1 no-hit innings. Austin tossed 1.2 scoreless with 4 strikeouts in relief. The offense added 2 more runs in the 9th on a Hernandez RBI single and Sherwin RBI groundout. After Langford tossed 3 scoreless in relief, Chirinos came on and tossed a scoreless 9th to close out the 4-0 win.

Note: Langford has a 1.17 ERA this season.
