Astros Minor League Recap: April 17th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (12-5) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Blubaugh got the start and was dominant for Sugar Land. He allowed a lead off homer, but then went 6.1 scoreless striking out 8, allowing just the one run. He generated 15 swings and misses while touching 96.3 MPH with the fastball. The offense got on the board in the 3rd on a Whitcomb 2 run single. That was enough for the Blubaugh and the pen as they were able to close out the 2-1 win.

Note: Blubaugh has a 0.79 ERA in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (3-8) won 7-3 (BOX SCORE)

Ullola started for the Hooks and after giving up 2 runs in the first, he settled down to go 5 innings striking out 8 and allowing just those 2 runs. The offense got on the board in the 3rd on RBI singles from Sacco and Brewer. They got another in the 4th on a Palma solo HR. In the 6th, the offense added 2 more runs on RBI singles from Melton and Arocho. Melton added insurance in the 7th with a 2 run triple. The pen allowed 1 run but held on for the 7-3 win.

Note: Ullola has 22 K in 13.2 innings this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (6-5) won 15-12 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville fell behind 3-0 quickly but responded with 6 runs of their own in the first on a Cruz 2 run single and Encarnacion grand slam. Swanson got the start for the Tourists and went 5.1 innings allowing 6 runs. The offense got 3 more in the 4th on a Garcia RBI double and Fisher 2 run HR. In the 7th, Fisher added another homer, this time a solo shot. Rome took a 12-10 lead scoring 4 runs in the 8th. The offense responded however getting 2 runs on an error to tie it. With two on still in the 8th, Fisher connected on his third homer of the day, a 3 run shot to go up 15-12. Torres finished off the 9th to seal the 15-12 win.

Note: Ferreras is hitting .379 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (7-4) lost 16-7 (BOX SCORE)

Pecko got the start and allowed 2 runs over 0.2 innings before being pulled. He was relieved by Petschke who allowed 6 runs over 2.1 innings. The offense got on the board in the 3rd scoring 3 runs on a sac fly, an error and a groundout. The pen struggled allowing 5 more runs as the Nationals extended their lead. In the 7th, the offense would get 3 runs including a Luciano solo HR, but it wasn’t nearly enough as Fayetteville fell 16-7.

Note: Gomez is hitting .350 this season.
