Astros Minor League Recap: April 13th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (10-4) won 18-9 (BOX SCORE)

The offense got on the board in the first on a Cabbage RBI groundout. They picked up 4 more runs in the 2nd inning on groundouts from Salazar and Hensley and a 2 run HR from Julks. Gusto got the start but struggled a bit allowing 5 runs over 3.1 innings. The offense rallied for 4 more runs in the 4th on a Salazar RBI triple, Julks RBI single and Loperfido 2 run HR. They continued to add one getting a run in the 5th on a Whitcomb RBI single and another in the 6th on a Cabbage solo HR. In the 7th, they scored 3 more runs on a Wagner solo HR, a wild pitch and a walk to Cabbage. The offense capped things off with 4 runs in the 9th on a Leon grand slam. Whitley, Gaither and Coleman all had scoreless outings in relief as Sugar Land won 18-9.

Note: Loperfido has 10 HR, 24 RBI in 13 games this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (1-7) lost 10-3 (BOX SCORE)

Verlander made the start for the Hooks last night and after two scoreless innings, he ran into some trouble in the third allowing 6 runs. A wild pitch in the 4th put the Hooks on the board. After Frisco scored 2 more, the Hooks responded with 2 in the 7th on a Stubbs 2 run HR. Frisco would add two more runs off Knorr and the offense was unable to come back as the Hooks fell 10-3.

Note: Carrasco made his Double-A debut in this game.


A+: Asheville Tourists (4-4)

Game 1 – lost 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Calderon started game one for Asheville but struggled allowing 6 runs, 5 earned, over 3 innings of work. The offense got on the board in the 6th scoring a run on a wild pitch. They score one more in the 7th on a Guillemette RBI double but that would be it as Asheville dropped game one 6-2.

Note: Matthews has 4 SB in 7 games this season.

Game 2 – lost 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

Dombroski started for Tourists and 3.1 innings allowing 3 runs, which all came on a 3 run HR in the 4th. Torres was great in relief striking out 4 over 2.2 scoreless innings. Loftin put the Tourists on the board in the 7th with a solo HR but that was it from the offense as they fell 3-1.

Note: Baez is hitting .345 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (5-3) won 9-4 (BOX SCORE)

Santos started for the Woodpeckers but struggled with his command walking 6 and allowed 2 runs in 3.2 innings. Jaworksy put the Woodpeckers on the board in the first inning with an RBI single. They got another run in the 6th on an Encarnacion solo HR. The Woodpeckers went into the bottom of the 7th down 4-2 but rallied for 6 runs on a Gomez 2 run single, Jaworksy RBI single, Bush 2 run single and a run scoring on an error. They added another run in the 8th on an Encarnacion RBI single. Pena closed it out allowing 1 run over the final 4 innings.

Note: Gomez is hitting .333 this season.
