Astros Minor League Recap: May 29th

Another day of minor league action is in the books. You can see all the Astros affiliates results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (18-30) won 17-14 (BOX SCORE)

Manea put the Space Cowboys on the board in the 2nd with an RBI single. They got 3 runs in the 3rd on a De Goti RBI double and Salazar 2 run single. In the 4th inning the offense picked up 5 runs on a Lee RBI single, Brinson 2 run double, Salazar bases loaded walk and Manea sac fly. Bermudez started and went 4 innings allowing 3 runs. The offense continued to pour it on getting 4 more in the 5th on a De Goti RBI single and McKenna 3 run HR. After El Paso scored 2 runs, Julks got them back in the 6th with a 2 run HR. The Space Cowboys picked up a couple more runs and despite a surge from El Paso, they were able to hold on for the 17-14 win.

Note: Julks has 10 HR this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (18-27) lost 7-6 (BOX SCORE

Chaidez started for the Hooks and allowed 4 runs (all coming in the first) over 3 innings of work. Valdez put the Hooks on the board in the 3rd with an RBI single. In the 5th, Valdez connected on a solo HR, his 9th of the season. The Hooks entered the 7th inning down 5-2 but Dirden gave them the lead with a grand slam to left center field. The Wind Surge were able to rally picking up a run in the 8th and then a run in the 9th to take a 7-6 lead. The offense was unable to respond as they fell 7-6.

Note: Valdez is hitting .362 with 10 2B, 5 HR in May.


A+: Asheville Tourists (17-27) won 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Tokar started for the Tourists and went 5 innings allowing 4 runs while striking out 7. The Tourists first run came in the 2nd on a Stevens solo HR. In the 5th, the Tourists got one more on a Stevens RBI single. The Tourists went into the 7th down 4-2 but rallied for 6 runs on a Stevens RBI single, Gonzalez RBI triple, Stubbs RBI single and Santana 3 run HR. The bullpen was great tossing 4 scoreless innings to close it out and seal the win.

Note: Hamilton is hitting .500 in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (19-26) lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first when a run scored on a fielder’s choice. Swanson started for Fayetteville and allowed 1 run over 3 innings of work. After a scoreless inning from Foggo, Mejias was next in going 4 innings and allowing 4 runs. The offense was unable to get anything else going as they fell 5-1.

Note: Corona has a .834 OPS this season.
