Astros Minor League Recap: April 28th

Another day of minor league action is in the books. You can see all the Astros affiliates results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (10-11) won 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

The Space Cowboys offense got going in the first scoring 3 runs on a Lee RBI single, Brinson RBI double, and Lee scoring on a wild pitch. After an RBI groundout in the 2nd by Barreto, they got 2 more runs in the 3rd on a McKenna bases loaded HBP and Leon RBI single. Bielak got the start and went 4 innings allowing just 1 unearned run. The Space Cowboys got 2 more runs in the 6th on a Leon stolen base where he scored on an error and a solo HR from Lee. Donato tossed 3 scoreless in relief and James closed it out in the 9th.

Note: Bielak has a 2.45 ERA this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (7-10) lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE

Robaina got the start and went 3.2 innings allowing 2 runs. He was relieved by Ruppenthal who tossed 1.1 scoreless innings. The Hooks tied it up scoring 2 runs in the 6th on a Valdez RBI single and Perez scoring on a wild pitch. In the 8th, Diaz gave the Hooks the lead connecting on a 2 run HR to left-center. Brown tossed 3 scoreless innings in relief giving way to Sprinkle for the 9th. The Drillers tied it up in the 9th on a 2 run HR. The game went to extras and the Hooks scored 5 runs in the 10th on RBI singles from Diaz, Arias (2 runs), Kessinger, and Adolph. Conn closed it out to seal the win.

Note: Diaz is hitting .304 with 12 RBI this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (3-15) lost 7-3 (BOX SCORE

Taveras started for the Tourists and struggled allowing 2 runs and walking 6 in 2.2 innings. The offense picked up 2 runs in the 4th on a Daniels solo HR and Rodriguez run scoring single. The bullpen struggled allowing another 5 runs as the Dash extended their lead. The Tourists scored a run in the 8th on an error but that was it as they fell 7-3.

Note: Sandle is hitting .310 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (6-12)

Game 1 – won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Miley started game 1 for the Woodpeckers and was great tossing 5 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. The offense for the Woodpeckers came on solo HRs from Guilamo and Corona. Schroeder allowed a run in the 6th but closed the game out to seal the 2-1 win.

Game 2 – lost 3-0 (BOX SCORE)

Santos started game two for the Woodpeckers and allowed 3 runs over 4 innings. The offense was quiet picking up just 1 hit, a single by Orr. Coats tossed 3 scoreless in relief but the Woodpeckers dropped game 2, 3-0.
