Astros Minor League Recap: September 1st, 2021

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books and you can see all the Astros affiliates results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Skeeters (59-43) OFF


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (47-56) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Daniels started for the Hooks and allowed 2 runs over 5 innings. The Hooks rallied in the 5th scoring 5 runs on a Schreiber RBI single, Hensley RBI single, Valdez 2 run double and a run scoring on an error. Henderson tossed 2 scoreless in relief and then Tejada tossed 2 scoreless innings to close it out as the Hooks won 5-2.

Note: Hensley is hitting .284 with 21 2B this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (45-55) won 4-0 (BOX SCORE)

Dirden got the scoring started for the Tourists with an RBI single in the first inning. The offense got another run in the 3rd on a wild pitch. In the 4th, Santana connected on a 2 run HR to make it 4-0. Gomez made his High-A debut and tossed 6 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Moclair closed it out tossing 3 scoreless innings to pick up the save.

Note: Whitcomb is hitting .295 with 18 2B in High-A.

  • Cesar Gomez, RHP: 6.0 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K (WIN)
  • Mark Moclair, RHP: 4.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K (SAVE)

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (47-57) lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers jumped out to an early lead scoring 3 runs in the first on RBI singles from Brewer, Wagner and Rodriguez. In the 3rd, Rodriguez added 2 more runs with a 2 run double. Kouba made his Fayetteville debut and tossed 2.1 scoreless to start it. He was relieved by Betances who allowed 4 runs in 2.2 innings. Next up was for who allowed 1 unearned run in 3 innings. The game would go to extras and the GreenJackets were able to take the lead in the 10th but the Woodpeckers were unable to respond as they fell 6-5.

Note: Sandle is hitting .310 this season.
