Astros Minor League Recap: May 23rd, 2021

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books and you can see all the Astros affiliates results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Skeeters (10-5) won 7-2 (BOX SCORE)

Valdez made his second rehab start and had a solid outing tossing 4 scoreless innings. He threw 54 pitches, 29 for strikes. Taylor also pitched a scoreless inning in a rehab stint. The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring 3 runs on a Rivera sac fly and Papierski 2 run double. In the 5th, Siri added an RBI double to make it 4-0. Siri wasn’t done though as he connected on a 3 run HR in the 7th to make it 7-0. Dubin closed the game out striking out 6 over 4 innings while allowing 2 runs.

Note: Siri is hitting .404 with 5 HR, 28 RBI this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (6-11) lost 3-0 (BOX SCORE)

Donato got the start for the Hooks and pitched well allowing just 2 runs over 5 innings of work while striking out 6. Mushinski relieved Donato and was solid in relief allowing just 1 run over 3.2 innings with 5 strikeouts. Unfortunately, the offense really struggled picking up just 5 hits, all singles, and they were unable to put any runs on the board in the 3-0 loss.

Note: Donato has 3 BB/20 K in 16 inning this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (8-9) won 13-12 (BOX SCORE)

Rivera got the start for Asheville and struggled allowing 5 runs in 2.1 innings. The Tourists fell behind early but got 3 runs in the 3rd on a Rodriguez solo HR and a Lee 2 run double. In the 5th they scored 3 more runs on a Valdez 3 run HR. They followed that up with two more runs in the 6th on an Orr 2 run HR. The Drive would get 4 runs off Cody and 3 runs off Conn to re-take the lead. The Tourists went into the 8th down 12-8 but rallied for 4 runs on a Lee RBI single and a 3 run double from Schreiber. In the bottom of the 9th, A.J. Lee came through with a walk-off RBI single to send the Tourists home with a 13-12 win.

Note: Lee is hitting .318 with 3 HR, 10 RBI this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (9-9) won 9-1 (BOX SCORE)

De Paula started for the Woodpeckers and was dominant tossing 5 scoreless innings while striking out 8. The offense finally got on the board in the 5th on a Paulino RBI single. In the 6th, the Woodpeckers blew it open getting 5 runs on a Whitcomb RBI single, Rodriguez RBI single, Correa RBI single and a Ramirez 2 run double. In the 7th, they added 3 more runs on a Correa 2 run HR and a Corona RBI single. Barry allowed 1 run over 3 innings in relief and then Sprinkle closed it out with a scoreless 9th.

Note: De Paula has 21 K in 13.2 innings this season.
