Astros Minor League Recap: July 2nd, 2019

Another day of minor league action in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Round Rock Express (50-34) won 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

Rodgers got the start but only last 2.2 innings as he allowed 4 runs. The Express got on the board in the 4th on a Jones and Tucker RBI single and another run scoring on a balk. Emanuel relieved Rodgers and tossed 5.1 scoreless innings. A Ferguson RBI single in the 8t tied the game at 4. The Storm Chasers would get 2 runs in the top of the 10th but Round Rock would respond. With 1 out and 2 on, Jones connected on a 3-run walk-off HR to win 7-6.

Note: Jones is hitting .370 in 27 games since the start of June.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (38-43) lost 13-11 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks scored early getting Beer and Wrenn RBI doubles in the first inning. Sierra added a solo HR in the 2nd. The RoughRiders scored 5 in the 2nd to take the lead. The Hooks tied it in the 3rd on a Matijevic 2 run HR. Frisco re-took the lead but the Hooks cut back into it with a Beer solo HR in the 5th. The Hooks then took the lead in the 7th on a Matijevic 3 run HR. The bullpen continued to struggled though as Frisco took the lead back and eventually won 13-11.

Note: Matijevic is hitting .342 with 6 HR over his last 10 games.


A+: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (37-45) lost 11-1 (BOX SCORE)

Rough game for the Woodpeckers. Garcia started and lasted just 0.2 innings allowing 4 runs. The bullpen struggled as well allowing 7 more runs. Fayetteville did get one back on a Valdez sac fly but the game was called in the 7th due to rain.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (51-26) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Rivera started and pitched great going 7 innings while allowing 2 runs, 1 earned and striking out 5. The offense tied things up at 2 in the 4th on a McKenna RBI single and Hensley sac fly. In the 5th they picked up 2 more runs on a Nova RBI double and Dennis RBI single. Martin closed it out with 2 scoreless innings.

Note: McKenna is hitting .305 in 18 games this season.


A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (7-10) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)
