Astros Minor League Recap: April 7th, 2019

Another day of minor league action in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Round Rock Express (2-2) won 9-6 (BOX SCORE)

Perez made his first start of the season and got roughed up a bit allowing 4 runs, 3 earned, in 4.1 innings. Ritchie got the Express on the board with a solo HR in the 3rd inning. They took the lead in the 5th scoring 2 runs on a Straw RBI single and Mayfield sac fly. The Baby Cakes (yes, that is their name) took a 1 run lead but Mayfield tied it with an RBI single. The Baby Cakes then scored 2, taking a 2 run lead. Jones connected on a solo HR in the 8th to make it 6-5 and then Mayfield tied it in the 9th with a solo HR. The game went to extra innings and Alvarez gave the Express the lead with a 3 run HR, his 4th HR in the last two days. Deetz closed it out with 2 scoreless innings.

Note: Four of Alvarez’s five hits this season have gone for homeruns.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (3-1) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Ivey made his AA debut yesterday and was solid allowing 1 run over 4 innings while striking out 5. Rojas got the Hooks on the board in the first inning on an RBI groundout. They picked up another in the 4th on a Robinson RBI single. The ended up entering the 8th down 4-2 but Quintana gave them the lead on a 3 run HR. McKee picked up the win in relief striking out 8 over 3 perfect innings.

Note: Wrenn is off to a solid starting hitting .444 (4-for-9) with 4 BB/1 K in 4 games.


A+: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (1-3) lost 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Hasn’t been a great start to the Woodpeckers’ season. The offense struggled last night managing just 2 runs. The first came on a solo HR from Manea in the first inning. The second run came on a De La Cruz RBI groundout in the 2nd. Donato got the start but struggled only retiring two batters while allowing 3 runs. Rosado and Sanabria both allowed runs in their outings but Paredes tossed 3 scoreless in the losing effort.

Note: Manea is 4-for-9 with 2 HR so far this season.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (1-3) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Conine made his season debut striking out 9 over 5 innings, but also allowed 4 runs. The offense for the River Bandits has been struggling and only managed 3 runs yesterday. They scored these runs on a Schreiber 2 run HR in the 4th and a Valdez RBI single in the 7th. Ruppenthal allowed 1 run over 3 innings in relief but the offense was unable to mount a comeback.

Note: Valdez is hitting .333 (3-for-9) with 2 BB/1 K in 3 games this season.
