Astros Minor League Recap: June 18th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (43-27) won 9-3 (BOX SCORE)

James started for Fresno last night and pitched very well allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work. The offense scored early and often getting a run in the first on a Davis RBI double. The Grizzlies picked up 2 runs in the 4th with a run scoring on a wild pitch and a Kemmer sac fly. In the 5th inning Fresno executed a double steal with Straw stealing home. Fresno picked up 2 more in the 6th with a run scoring on a wild pitch and a Kemmer RBI double. The Grizzlies put the game out of reach scoring 3 in the 8th on a Straw RBI single and Reed 2 run HR, his 17th of the season.

Note: Tucker is hitting .457 with 8 RBI over his last 8 games.

  • Andrew Thome, RHP: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
  • Chris Nunn, LHP: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (43-26) won 12-0 (BOX SCORE)

Whitley started for the Hooks and continued to pitch like we all expect tossing 4 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. The Hooks offense started early scoring 3 runs in the first on a Ritchie 2 run single and De Goti RBI double. Rojas joined the party with an RBI double in the 2nd. In the 3rd inning the Hooks scored 3 more runs on a McCormick 2 run triple and another run scoring on a wild pitch. The Hooks picked up another run in the 4th on an Alvarez RBI single. Alvarez continued with his home run stroke connecting on a 3 run HR in the 8th inning. Bostick closed the game out with 4 scoreless innings. With the win, the Hooks clinched the Texas League South Division first half title.

Note: Alvarez is hitting .308 with with 8 HR, 33 RBI in 29 games this season.
