Astros Minor League Recap: May 19th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (26-17) won 4-0 (BOX SCORE)

Trent Thornton got the start last night and was pitching really well before being struck by a line drive that forced him to leave the game. To that point he tossed 3.2 scoreless innings. Jake Marisnick got the Grizzlies on the board in the 3rd inning with a 2 run HR. The Grizzlies followed that up with back to back HRs in the 4th by Federowicz and Reed. The bullpen relieving Thornton was very good with five total pitcher combining for the shutout.

Note: Ramsey last 4 outings – 8.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 12 K

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (24-18) lost 10-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got the scoring started in the 2nd inning on a De Goti RBI single. Corpus Christi then put together a 4 run 3rd inning thanks to a Jones RBI single and Cesar 3 run HR. Corbin Martin made his 4th AA appearance and allowed 1 run in 5 innings, though he didn’t record a strikeout. Quiala relieved Martin and really struggled allowing 9 runs in 2.1 innings and Frisco came back to win it late.

Note: Cesar is hitting .406 with 3 HR, 13 RBI over his last 8 games.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (23-18) lost 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Brett Adcock was the starter for Buies Creek last night and he turned in a quality performance allowing 2 runs over 6 innings. The bullpen didn’t help though allowing 1 run in the 8th and 3 more in the 9th. An Angrarita RBI single in the 8th got them on the board and then solo HRs from Matijevic and Robinson made it close but it wasn’t enough as they dropped this one 6-3

Note: Matijevic is hitting .326 (.616 SLG) with 9 2B, 4 HR in 24 games this season.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (23-18) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Another solid pitching performance as Peter Solomon went 5 innings and gave up just 1 run. Quad Cities entered the 8th down 2-0 but got 3 runs on a bases loaded walk to Papierski, Sierra RBI single, and Shaver sac fly. Beloi tied it up ion the bottom of the 8th and then eventually won it on a walk-off in the bottom of the 11th.

Note: Sierra is hitting .375 over his last 6 games.
