Astros Minor League Recap: June 30th, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (43-38) won 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno just keeps on rolling. Coleman got the start giving up 6 runs in 5.2 innings but the offense picked up the slack. Moran got the Grizzlies on the board early with a sac fly in the first inning. In the 2nd inning, they got 3 runs on a Kemp RBI single, White sac fly, and Fisher RBI double. Stassi added an RBI double in the 5th and Kemp added another RBI single in the 6th to make it 6-4. Sacramento would get a run in the 6th but Fresno added 2 more on a Tucker solo HR (13) in the 7th and White solo HR (13) in the 8th. Comer picked up the saving tossing 1.1 scoreless innings.

Note: Tucker has 13 HR, 59 RBI in 72 games this season.

  • Tyson Perez, RHP: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K (WIN)
  • Kevin Comer, RHP: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K (SAVE)

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (38-40) lost 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on a Davis RBI single and Singleton sac fly in the first inning. McHugh made a rehab start and it did not go well. He allowed 4 runs on 7 hits in just 1 inning of work. He had a hit batter and allowed a single in the 2nd before being pulled due to a rain delay. Corpus got 4 runs in the 5th on Davis 2 run HR and a Martin 2 run double to take a 7-4 lead. NW Arkansas battled back getting 3 runs off of James in the 6th and winning it with 1 run in the 9th on a walk-off.

Note: Ferguson is hitting .349 with 3 2B, 1 HR, 6 RBI over his last 10 games


A+: Buies Creek Astros (42-37) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

One of the Astros top pitching prospects, Franklin Perez, was on the mound in this. He did not disappoint tossing 5 scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk. Buies Creek gave him an early cushion scoring 2 runs in the first on an Alvarez RBI single and a Jones RBI double. Hartman relieved Perez and pitched well too allowing just 1 run over 4 innings of work, picking up the save.

Note: Perez has a 2.05 ERA with 6 BB/21 K over his last 4 outings (22 IP)


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (42-35) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Tough loss for Quad Cities. LaRue got the start and was solid, other than one bad inning where Burlington scored all 4 runs. His final line was 4 runs over 5 innings with 3 strikeouts. Quad Cities started their comeback in 5th scoring 1 run on a Rojas solo HR. In the 6th inning, Dawson added a solo HR (8) to make it 4-2. Quad Cities entered the 9th and got 1 run on a Cameron RBI single but were unable to get any other runs. Blanco was solid in relief tossing 3 scoreless innings.

Note: Dawson is hitting .333 with 3 HR, 5 RBI over his last 7 games.
