Astros Minor League Recap: May 31st, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (23-30) OFF


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (26-26) lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Armenteros, who has been phenomenal this season, got the start last night for the Hooks. He went 5 innings allowing 2 runs with 1 walk to 5 strikeouts. Stubbs had a solid day at the plate and scored the first run for the Hooks in the 5th inning on a double play. Stubbs is hitting .364 over his last 10 games. Armenteros left the game down 2-1 but Springfield was able to score 3 runs off of James.

The Hooks tried to battle back getting 2 runs in the 7th with Singleton scoring on a double play and an RBI single from Woodward driving in Stubbs. Tucker had a good night in just his 2nd game in Double-A. He finished with two hits, a double and a solo HR in the 8th that made it 5-4. Unfortunately, the Hooks weren’t able to rally in the 9th and fell 5-4.

Note: Armenteros has 60 K in 46.2 innings.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (30-23) lost 9-8 (BOX SCORE)

Back and forth game in Buies Creek last night. Hartman got the start and struggled last night allowing 6 runs and 4 walks over 3.2 innings. Buies Creek fell behind 1-0 but rallied for 3 runs in the 2nd inning on a Johnson 2 run triple and a McCall RBI single. Buies Creek got 2 more in the 3rd on an RBI double from DeGoti and a run scoring on an error.

The Astros fell behind 8-5 but got 2 back in the 5th on a Sierra RBI single and Straw RBI double. Buies Creek went into the 9th down 9-7. With 2 outs and 2 on, McCall hit a double to left field scoring Rogers but DeGoti was gunned down at the plate to end the rally and the game. Rogers picked up 2 more hits and is hitting .364 since his promotion to High-A.

Note: Straw finished May with a .297 BA/.434 OBP in 25 games


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (26-25) lost 0-3 (BOX SCORE)

Paredes got the start last night and was great going 5 hitless innings with 5 strikeouts. Unfortunately, it was a rough nice for the Quad Cities offense as they only managed 3 hits on the night. Alvarez had one of those hits and also drew a walk. Cameron added a double and Dawson had a stolen base but they weren’t able to push any runs across.

Note: Alvarez is hitting .377 in 15 games for Quad Cities
