Astros Minor League Recap: June 4th, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (26-31) lost 9-5 (BOX SCORE)

Deetz made his AAA debut yesterday but it didn’t go well. He went 2.1 innings allowing 9 hits and 7 runs. The Grizzlies got on the board in the 2nd scoring 3 runs on a Kemmer RBI single and 2 more runs scoring on an error. In the bottom of the 5th they would get 2 more runs back with Kemp scoring on a wild pitch and another run scoring on an error. West had a scoreless outing in relief for the Grizzlies.

Note: Garcis is 5-for-8 in his first 3 games for Fresno this season.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (28-28) lost 10-8 (BOX SCORE)

Another tough loss late for the Hooks. They jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a Davis 2 run HR in the first inning, his 14th of the season tying him with Fisher for the most in the Astros system. Winkelman got the start and had a rough time going 5 innings allowing 6 runs, 5 earned. Martin connected on a solo HR in the 3rd inning to tie it at 3. This was Martin’s first homerun in Double-A.

Corpus took a 7-3 lead getting 4 runs in the 4th inning on a Singleton solo HR, Nunez sac fly, and Martin 2 run double. In the 8th inning, Corpus got 2 runs on a Woodward RBI single and another run scoring on a wild pitch. Corpus went into the bottom of the 9th up 9-7. Unfortunately, Stutzman struggled allowing 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th and Tulsa was able to walk it off.

Note: Singleton has 54 BB/51 SO in 50 games.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (32-24) SUSPENDED 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

The game was suspended heading into the bottom of the 10th due to rain with Myrtle Beach leading Buies Creek 8-5. Here is the current box score for the game.

Note: Straw is now hitting .312 this season.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (28-27) won 14-5 (BOX SCORE)

Whitley got the start last night only going 3 innings while allowing 3 runs. It didn’t matter though as the offense came to play. Quad Cities entered the 3rd down 3-0 but Alvarez tied the game on a 3 run shot, his 3rd HR of the season. Quad Cities would blow the game open in the 7th inning. In that inning they picked up 5 runs on an Alvarez RBI single, Robinson RBI single, and a Henderson 3 run HR.

The offense bested their 7th inning performance with a 6 run 8th inning. They scored on a bases loaded walk to Duarte and Alvarez, 2 run double from Robinson, sac fly from Henderson, and a Benedetti RBI single. Alvarez picked up 5 RBI in the game and is now hitting .403 with 3 HR, 14 RBI in 19 games this season. Benedetti has 26 BB/24 K in 32 games.

Note: Alvarez is hitting .514 with 8 RBI over his last 10 games.
