Astros Minor League Recap: June 22nd, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (35-38) lost 9-3 (BOX SCORE)

Morton made a rehab start last night going 2 innings and allowing 1 run on 36 pitches. He was relieve by Thornton who allowed 8 runs, 7 earned over 4 innings. Fresno got a run in the 3rd inning on an RBI single from Tucker and 2 more in the 5th on a 2 run single from Kemp. The bullpen tossed 3 scoreless innings after Thornton but the offense was unable to rally.

Note: Kemp is hitting .426 with 2 HR, 9 RBI over his last 10 games


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (36-37) won 6-5 (BOX SCORE

Back and forth game for Corpus last night. Bostick got the start and pitched well allowing just 2 runs over 5 innings pitched. Corpus got on the board in the 2nd on a Singleton solo HR. In the 3rd, they got 2 more runs on a Ferguson RBI single and Tucker RBI double. Tucker added to the lead in the 7th with a solo HR to left, his 5th HR in AA. Frisco took the lead on 3 runs in the 8th but Corpus tied it back on a Ritchie RBI groundout. The game stayed tied at 5 until the bottom of the 11th when Singleton won it on a sac fly. Walter and Thome both had scoreless outings in relief.

Note: Tucker is hitting .289 with 4 HR, 7 RBI over his last 9 games.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (37-34) lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Tough loss late for Buies Creek. They got a 2-0 lead early with a Hermelyn RBI groundout in the 1st and Rogers sac fly in the 3rd. Valdez got the start and allowed 3 unearned runs in the 3rd, lasting just 3.2 innings. Buies Creek got another run in the 5th on an RBI single from Hermelyn and 2 more in the 8th on a Cesar RBI single and another on a wild pitch to take the lead. Unfortunately, Bower struggled in relief giving up 1 run in the 8th and 9th as Winston-Salem walked it off.

Note: Straw is hitting .463 with 5 RBI, 4 SB over his last 10 games.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (37-32) lost 4-0 (BOX SCORE)

Rough night for the offense as they managed just 2 hits in the game, a single from Robinson and a double from Sieber. Whitley got the start and pitched well striking out 7 over 4 innings while allowing just 1 run. Unfortunately, he didn’t get any run support and Quad Cities picked up the loss 4-0.


A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (2-1) won 1-0 (BOX SCORE)


Rookie: Greeneville Astros (1-0) won 13-6 (BOX SCORE)
