Astros Minor League Recap: June 16th, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (33-35) won 15-14 (BOX SCORE)

Big game for the Fresno offense. Kemmer led off the game with a HR but that was the only run they would score until the 6th. In the 6th inning, they got 6 runs on a Reed sac fly, Kemmer RBI single, White 2 run double, and Tucker 2 run HR (12). They would better that in the 7th getting 7 runs on a 2 run HR from Brignac (7), 3 run HR from White (9), and 2 run HR from Moran (14). White added another run in the 8th on an RBI double, his 6th RBI of the night. Thornton got the start and went 6 innings but allowed 7 runs. The bullpen of Guduan and Holmes got roughed up but the offense scored just enough to win it.

Note: White is hitting .565 with 5 HR, 18 RBI over his last 10 games


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (33-34)

Game 1 – won 6-2 (BOX SCORE

Corpus got off to a quick start in game 1 getting a 3 run HR from Mayfield in the first inning. Bostick got the start and was solid allowing 2 runs over 5 innings, though he did allow 8 hits. Corpus added to their lead in the 2nd inning on a Nunez RBI single. In the 3rd, they got a run on a Davis solo HR, his 17th HR of the season. Kyle Tucker capped the scoring with a solo HR in the 6th inning, his 2nd in AA and 11th overall. Dorris tossed 2 scoreless innings to close it.

Note: Davis is hitting .341 with 3 HR, 10 RBI over his last 10 games

Game 2 – won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Emanuel got the start and this one going 5 innings and allowing 3 runs. Corpus got on the board in the first when Martin singled, stole 2nd, and scored on an error. They entered the 6th inning down 3-1 but rallied for 3 runs on a Laureano RBI groundout and a 2 run double from Woodward. Thome pitched 2 scoreless innnings in relief to close it out.

Note: Martin is hitting .326 in 12 AA games

A+: Buies Creek Astros (36-31) POSTPONED


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (36-30) won 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Alvarez got the party started last night with a 2 run HR in the first inning, his 8th of the season. He fell behind 0-2, worked the count to 3-2, and then crushed the 3-2 pitch over the center field wall. Sanabria was on the mound for the River Bandits and allowed 3 runs over 4.1 innings. Quad Cities picked up 2 more in the 4th on a Jones sac fly and a Cameron solo HR. They got 1 more runs in the 5th on an Almonte solo HR. Whitley relieved Sanabria and was great striking out 8 over 3.2 scoreless innings. Montano pitched a scoreless 9th to close it out.

Note: Arauz is hitting .313 with 5 BB/3 K in 14 games this season
