Astros Minor League Recap: May 1st, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (11-14) won 11-7 (BOX SCORE)

Frias got the start and struggled again allowing 7 runs in 4 innings, though just 2 were earned. Tucker got the scoring started with a solo HR in the 1st inning, his 4th HR of the season. In the 2nd inning, Fresno added 2 more on a 2 run HR from Aplin. They continued to play add on getting another run in the 3rd on a White RBI triple. They entered the 6th down 7-4 but tied it up on a Fisher 3 run HR. In the 7th inning they got another 3 runs on a Reed RBI double, White RBI double and a Centeno RBI single. Tucker continued his hotting hitting with an RBI double in the 8th to make it 11-7. The bullpen of Guduan and Jankowski had scoreless outings to seal the win.

Note: Reed has 10 hits in his last 4 games and is now hitting .306 this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (15-9) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Deetz continued his nice start to the season with another good performance. He went 5 innings allowing 1 run with 4 strikeouts. The Hooks got 2 runs in the 1st inning on a Ferguson solo HR and a Woodward RBI double. Corpus would get got another 4 runs in the 6th inning on a Muniz 2 run double and a Ferguson 2 run single. Freeman tossed 2 scoreless innings and Ferrell closed it out allowing 1 run in 2 innings.

Note: After a slow start, Ferguson is up to .280 with 3 HR, 13 RBI on the season.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (17-8) won 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

Buies Creek keeps on winning. The Astros got started quick getting 1 run in the first three innings with Straw scoring on a wild pitch, de Oleo sac fly, and a Martin solo HR. Winkelman got the start and was great again tossing 5 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. See note below on his season. In the 6th, Porter added a 2 run HR. McCall added an RBI single in the 7th and an Duarte RBI triple and him later scoring on a wild pitch led to 2 more runs. The bullpen gave up some runs but the lead was big enough to hold on for the win.

Note: Winkelman has a 2.25 ERA with 2 BB/26 K in 20 IP.
