Astros Minor League Recap: May 18th, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (16-25) lost 13-3 (BOX SCORE)

Thornton has been good in AAA so far but last night he struggled. He gave up 9 runs in 4 innings of work. Stassi got the Grizzlies on the boar with a solo HR in the 3rd inning. Fisher continued his hot hitting with a 2 run HR in the 8th but the initial deficit was too much to overcome.

Note: Fisher is hitting .308 with 3 HR, 9 RBI over his last 10 games

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (19-21) won 6-1 (BOX SCORE)

Deetz was money last night for Corpus. He had his longest start of 2017 going 7 innings and allowing just 1 run. Corpus got the bats working early with a 2 run single from Laureano in the first inning. In the 2nd inning, they got two more runs on a 2 run single from Stubbs. Singleton added an RBI single in the 7th to cap off the scoring. Minnis and Dorris both tossed scoreless outings in relief to seal the win for Corpus.

Note: Deetz has a 1.30 ERA with 33 K in 33.2 IP this season

A+: Buies Creek Astros (25-16) lost 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

The game started well for Buies Creek with Hermelyn producing an RBI single in the first inning. Unfortunately, it fell apart quick for Bower who allowed 6 runs, 5 earned over 4.2 innings. The offense wasn’t able to get much else going after the first inning. Tucker went 3-for-4 raising his season average to .317. Sierra allowed just 1 run over his 3.1 relief innings.

Note: Tucker is hitting .317 with a 1.031 OPS this season.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (19-19) lost 1-0 (BOX SCORE)

Tough loss last night. Whitley got the start and was phenomenal tossing 5 shutout innings with 6 strikeouts. He was relieved by Sanabri who allowed 1 run over his 3 innings of work. Unfortunately, the offense only managed three hits on the night, all singles, and weren’t able to scratch across any runs.

Note: Whitley now has 31 K in 20 IP this season.

Today’s starters according to MiLB.com:

FRE: Mike Hauschild (11.70 ERA)

CC: Rogelio Armenteros (1.45 ERA)

BC: Justin Ferrell (6.59 ERA)

QC: Enoli Paredes (3.00 ERA)
