Astros Minor League Recap: April 13th, 2017

Rough night on the farm, though Fresno had a nice night. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games yesterday.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (5-3) won 12-4 (BOX SCORE)

Great game for the Fresno offense last night. They got the night started with two runs in the first on a Fisher sacrifice fly and a Reed solo HR. The offense would then explode with 5 runs in the 2nd inning on a Stassi 2 run double, Teoscar 2 run single, and a Tucker RBI single. Rodgers was on the mound for the Grizzlies and he pitched as expected allowing just 1 run over 6 innings. Fresno would play add on with a 2 run triple from Teoscar in the 6th and 3 run HR from Bignac in the 7th. Comer made his AAA debut with 2 scoreless innings to ensure Las Vegas was unable to make a comeback.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (4-2) lost 9-0 (BOX SCORE)

This was not the Corpus opening day they were looking forward too. After a solid start in his first outing, Thornton got hit around last night. He allowed 10 hits and 6 runs (4 earned) in just 3 innings of work. The offense was quiet all night recording just four hits. Stutzman, who was just promoted to Double-A, had a nice debut striking out 5 in 2 scoreless innings. Smith pitched the last three innings allowing 3 runs in 4 innings.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (6-2) lost 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

Tough night for Buies Creek. Ferrell was on the mound and had a rough go of it allowing 7 runs over 4.2 innings pitched. He was relieved by Winkelman who tossed 3.1 scoreless innings, giving him 8.1 scoreless innings this season. The offense was shutout all the way until the 9th inning when Birk came through with an RBI single. Unfortunately, this wasn’t near enough as they fell 7-1.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (3-5) lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Hunt made his second outing of the season last night but this one didn’t go as well. He allowed 4 runs over his 4 innings of work. The Quad Cities offense was unable to get much going all night but was able to scratch across a run on a Cameron sacrifice fly. LaRue relieved Hunt and pitched very well allowing 1 run in 5 innings. He now has a 0.90 ERA in his two outings this season.

Today’s starters according to MiLB.com:

FRE: Brian Holmes (5.06 ERA)

CC: Kent Emanuel (9.00 ERA)

BC: Matt Bower (10.80 ERA)

QC: Brett Adcock (0.00 ERA)
