Astros Winter League Update: October 31st

The Arizona Fall League is deep in its season with just three weeks remaining.  Unfortunately the team the Astros prospects are assigned to is struggling a bit.  Glendale is sitting in third in the AFL’s West Division five games behind the first place Peoria Javelinas.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

Glendale Desert Dogs

Ramon Laureano: .295/.340/.477/.817, 13-for-44, 4 2B, 2 3B, 8 RBI, 3 BB, 5 SB
Jason Martin: .385/.556/.615/1.171, 5-for-13, 3 2B, RBI, 4 BB
Garrett Stubbs: .205/.279/.333/.612, 8-for-39, 2 2B, HR, 4 RBI, 4 BB
Nick Tanielu: .143/.143/.143/.286, 1-for-7, RBI

Laureano got off a a very hot start. While he has slowed a bit, he has made a great impression in the Arizona Fall League and will be moving up prospect lists. He is showing all the tools necessarily to be a major league outfielder. Martin is a “Taxi Squad Player” who is eligible to play on Wednesdays and Saturdays. On those days he has played very well. Stubbs is only hitting .205 but has just 6 strikeouts in 11 games.

Rogelio Armenteros: 0-0, 22.09 ERA, 3.2 IP, 4 K, SV
Jacob Dorris: 1-1, 0.00 ERA, 5.1 IP, 11 K
Francis Martes: 0-1, 7.27 ERA, 8.2 IP, 7 K
David Paulino: 0-0. 0.00, 2.0 IP, K

Armenteros has struggled quite a bit in the AFL but its possible he is working on something. He had a great 2016 season. Dorris just keeps on keeping on. 11 K in 5.1 innings against very good competition. Will be interesting to see what he does next season in the system.

Toros del Este
Max Stassi: .400/.400/.400/.800, 2-for-5
