Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 5th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (42-41) lost 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

Tough loss late for Fresno. Fresno got on the board early with an RBI double from Tucker in the 1st inning. Rodgers got the start from the Grizzlies and turned in a quality start giving up 3 runs over 6 innings. With Fresno down 3-1 in the 5th, Tucker and White hit back to back RBI doubles to tie the game at 3. The game would stay tied at 3 until the 8th inning where Chapman gave up 3 runs. Fresno rallied for 1 in the 9th on a Kemp RBI single but that was all they would get.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (53-29) lost 14-6 (BOX SCORE)

Another tough loss for the Hooks. Yuhl got the start and got roughed up a bit giving up 4 runs, 3 earned runs, over 5 innings of work. Stubbs made his AA debut and had an RBI single in his first at bat. Gregor hit a solo HR in the 2nd inning bring the Hooks within a run. Unfortunately the Hooks bullpen got roughed up allowing 10 runs. The Hooks would get 2 runs in the 8th on a Mayfield solo HR and a Gregor RBI double. Mayfield hit another HR, a 2 run HR in the 9th but that is all they would get.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (41-41) lost 10-6 (BOX SCORE)

Dykxhoorn got the start in this one and got hit pretty hard giving up 11 hits and 8 runs in just 5 innings. Lancaster would battle though getting a run in the 2nd inning on a Sewald bases loaded walk. In the 5th inning the Jethawks put up 4 runs a Martin solo HR, a 2 run double from Marlow, and an RBI single from Mizell. Unfortunately Visalia kept scoring. Martin added another solo HR but Lancaster would fall 10-6.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (38-44) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

More good pitching for the River Bandits. Jose Hernandez got the start and tossed five scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts. Quad Cities got on the board in the 4th inning with an RBI single from Porter scoring Duarte. Beloit tied the game at 1 in the 8th but it didn’t last long. In the bottom of the 8th Quad Cities retook the lead with a bases loaded walk to Correa. Garza closed the game out with two scoreless innings.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (9-10) won 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

ValleyCats win in a walk-off. Hartman got the start and tossed four scoreless innings with no walks. State College opened up a 4-0 lead but Rogers cut to 4-1 with an RBI single. The ValleyCats ended up going into the 9th inning down 5-1. Tri-City loaded the bases with no outs in the 9th and Wrenn came through with a 2 run single to cut the lead to 5-3. Jones later added a 2 run single to tie the game at 5. The game would stay tied until the 12th. With two outs Birk singled, Cameron walked, and Dawson singled bringing Wrenn to the plate. He ended up working a bases loaded walk to win the game for Tri-City.

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (5-8) won 10-3 (BOX SCORE)

LAN: Joshua James (2.84 ERA)

QC: Yoanys Quiala (4.35 ERA)

GV: Abdiel Saldana (0.00 ERA)
