Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 4th
Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.
AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (42-40) won 4-1 (BOX SCORE)
Bregman and Teoscar carry the Grizzlies to the win in this one. Valdez got the start and pitched well giving up 1 run over 7 innings of work. The Grizzlies got on the board in the 3rd inning on a 2 run HR from Bregman. In the 8th the Grizzlies added two more runs on a solo HR from Bregman and an RBI triple from Teoscar. Bregman now has 18 HR overall between AA/AAA. McCurry tossed a scoreless 8th and Hoyt pitched a perfect 9th with 2 strikeouts to pick up the save.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (53-28) won 10-2 (BOX SCORE)
This game got out of hand late. Davis opened the scoring with a solo HR in the 2nd inning, his 13th HR of the season. Frias rolled through the first four but then gave up 3 unearned runs in the 5th. The game stayed at 3-1 until Tulsa put up 7 runs off of Peterson and Thompson. Corpus did get a run in the 8th on an error but that would be it for the scoring as they fell 10-2.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (41-40) won 9-7 (BOX SCORE)
Nice comeback win for the Jethawks. Sewald opened the scoring with a solo HR in the bottom of the first inning. Bostick got the start for Lancaster and gave up 5 runs, 4 earned, over 5 innings of work. Lancaster got 2 more runs in the second on a Marlow RBI single and a Ferguson sac fly. They would go into the 7th down 7-3 and that is when the rally started. They got 2 runs in the 7th thanks to a 2 run double from Muniz. In the 8th they put up 4 runs on a Sewald RBI single, Boyd 2 run single, and Muniz RBI double. Deemes closed the game with 2 scoreless innings.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (37-44) won 9-1 (BOX SCORE)
Quad Cities won this one on the back of a great start from Elieser Hernandez. He finished with 8 shutout innings giving up just 1 hit and striking out 10. Quad Cities got on the board early with an RBI single from McCall in the 1st inning. In the 2nd inning Trompiz added a 2 run HR, his first HR of the season. In the 4th QC added another run on a Straw RBI single. The River Bandits dropped a 4 spot in the 8th inning with an RBI triple from Trompiz, 2 run single from McCall and an RBI double from Heremelyn. This offensive output was more than enough for Hernandez.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (8-10) lost 9-7 (BOX SCORE)
Tough loss for Tri-City in this back and forth game. Hill got the start and gave up 3 runs in the first inning but Tri-City responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st on a 2 run double from Wrenn and a 2 run double from Cesar. Unfortunately the pitching staff couldn’t hold the lead. Tri-City went into the 6th inning down 7-4 and Birk came through with a 2 run single but the bullpen gave up another 2 runs. Alex DeGoti added an RBI single in the 8th but that is all the ValleyCats would get.
