Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 2nd

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (41-40) lost 7-3 (BOX SCORE)

Peacock got the start and it didn’t start well. He gave up 1 run in the first inning and 6 runs in the 2nd inning. Fresno was able to get on the board in the 6th inning with a 3 run HR from Bregman, his 2nd HR in AAA. The bullpen of Guduan, Jankowski, and Chapman didn’t allow a run but the offense was unable to get anything else going.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (53-27) won 12-6 (BOX SCORE)

Offense was hot last night for Corpus. They scored early and often starting with 3 runs in the 1st inning with RBIs from Gregor and Tanielu. They got 2 more runs in the 2nd on a Pena solo HR and an RBI single from Hyde. Emanuel got the start and gave up 3 earned runs over 4.2 innings of work but the offense did their part. In the 4th inning Corpus added five more runs on a Gregor walk, Tanielu 2 run double, and Vasquez 2 run single. Gregor added an RBI double in the 8th to cap the scoring. While the bullpen wasn’t great giving up 3 runs, the offense did more than enough to pick up the win.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (40-40) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Another slow night for the offense in this one. Lancaster scored first on a Ballard RBI groundout in the 2nd inning. Deetz got the start for Lancaster but struggled giving up 3 runs, 2 earned runs in 2 innings of work. Lancaster would rally in the 7th with a Martin RBI triple to get within one run. The bullpen pitched the final six innings not allowing a run. Lancaster loaded the bases in the 9th but came up empty and Lake Elsinore got the win.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (36-44) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Unfortunately QC wasted a fantastic start from Abreu. He went 8 innings only allowing 2 hits and no runs. He has now allowed 1 ER in his last 24 IP. The game was scoreless until the 8th when McCall drove in Duarte with an RBI single. The game went into the 9th with Quad Cities up 1-0 but Whitt gave up 2 runs and Kane County picked up the win.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (8-9) won 10-0 (BOX SCORE)

Nice win for Tri-City. They got their scoring started early with a Wrenn 2 run HR in the first, his 7th HR of the season. In the 3rd inning Birk added a solo HR, his first professional HR. They would get 2 more in the 4th with RBI single from Mejia and DeGoti. In the 5th inning Wrenn and Jones both had RBI doubles to extend the lead. Cameron extended the lead to 9-0 with a 2 run HR of his own. Perez got the start and was very good once again. He went 5.2 innings allowing just 2 hits and no runs. Chavez relieved him and pitched 3.1 scoreless innings to close the game.
