Houston Astros Draft Picks Rounds 11 – 20

The MLB Draft continued today. Here are the Astros picks from rounds 11-20.

Round 11, Pick 337 – Chad Donato, RHP, West Virginia U

Donato, from Cypress, TX, is listed at 6-0 and 195 lbs. He started the last two season for West Virginia and put up pretty good numbers. In his junior season he went 3-4 but had a 3.27 ERA with 20 BB/111 K in 96.1 innings. His fastball reaches 93 but sits 89-91 MPH. He also possesses a very good curveball.

Round 12, Pick 367 – Carmen Benedetti, LHP, Michigan

Benedetti was a two-way player for Michigan, playing first base. He had a very good sophomore season hitting .352 with 25 2B, 71 RBI in 62 games. He hit .326 with 19 2B as a junior. As a pitcher he sits 89-92 MPH with an average changeup and breaking ball. This season as a pitcher he struck out 17 in 14.2 innings.

Round 13, Pick 397 – Ryne Birk, 2B, Texas A&M

Birk isn’t a big guy listed at 5-9 and 185 lbs but had a very good college career. This season he hit .315 with 14 2B, 7 HR, 8 SB, 23 BB/33 K in 63 games. He doesn’t have any tools that pop out but is solid across the board. Seems like a guy the Astros like to draft.

Round 14, 427 – Carson LaRue, RHO, Cowley County CC

He pitched for Oklahoma State in 2015 but struggled a bit and transferred to a Community College. The positive here is he is just 20 years old. He went 10-1 with 2.07 ERA, 87 IP, 27 BB/109 K for Cowley County.

Round 15, Pick 457 – Alex Degoti, SS, Barry U

He played for Long Beach State before transferring to Barry in 2016. This season he hit .404 with 14 HR, 58 RBI, 27 BB/22 K, 22 SB in 193 at bats.

Round 16, Pick 487 –  Spencer Johnson, LF, Missouri State

Johnson played all four years for Missouri State but really put together a good senior year. The 6-4 outfielder hit .293 with 24 HR, 70 RBI in 59 games.

Round 17, Pick 517 – Brian Howard, RHP, TCU

Howard is huge, listed at 6-9, 205 lbs. His junior season he went 8-2 with a 3.56 ERA in 86 innings. His fastballs sits in the low 90s but does a great job at inducing groundballs.

Round 18, Pick 547 – Colin McKee, RHP, Mercyhurst Col

While he played a small school, the 6-3 right hander dominated. He went 11-2 with a 1.82 ERA, 94 IP, 55 H, 34 BB, 141 K. His fastball reaches 94 MPH.

Round 19, Pick 577 – Taylor Jones, 1B, Gonzaga

Another big guy, listed at 6-7 and 205 lbs. Jones was also a pitcher but found his groove his senior season with the bat. He hit .332 with 27 2B, 2 HR, 23 BB/34 K in 56 games.

Round 20, Pick 607 – Louis-Philippe Pelletier, 2B, Seminole State

Pelletier is just 20 years old and from Canada. He was drafted in the 38th round in 2014. He is listed at 5-10 and 205 lbs. I wasn’t able to find any stats for him.

Look for information on the picks for rounds 21-40 later this evening or tomorrow.
