‘The Houston Astros are the favorites to sign a highly rated Cuban talent for the 2025 international signing period. The club is expected to sign outfielder Kevin Alvarez to a bonus around $2,000,000, when the next signing period opens Jan. 15, 2025, Francys Romero reported Friday. Alvarez was recently declared a free agent according to MLB.
Alvarez is seen as one of the best hitters in the 2025 International Class. The lefty hitter projects to have above average power. He also is a great athlete that excels with his arm and defense.
Scouts have him at 60 grade hit and power with a 55 grade overall. “Scouts find his body and skills at that age similar to those of Kyle Tucker or young Paul O’Neil” according to Francys Romero.
The Astros are once again spending big in the Cuban pipeline, one that has led to great success with Yordan Alvarez, Yuli Gurriel and many others in the organization.
