The Houston Astros are in agreement with a highly rated Dominican talent for the 2025 international signing period. The club is expected to sign shortstop Luis Steven King to a bonus around $400,000, when the next signing period opens Jan. 15, 2025, Francys Romero reported Wednesday.
Luis Steven King, twin brother of Luis Ramon King, has been training at Alex Sanchez’s Academy. Luis Ramon King is expected to sign with the Kansas City Royals. Information is limited on King, but adding another young talent up the middle will be big for the Astros’ system.
Francys Romero said his arm is a 70 on an 80 grade scale and is a multi-position player with center field being his second spot. “He needs to improve his power, but seems like an athlete,” Romero said. He also added that he is 6’2″ and high potential prospects with a good contact rate.
Cesar Hernandez Makes Professional Debut
In January of this year, the Astros signed highly touted Cuban prospect Cesar Hernandez. The outfielder, who was 20-years-old at the time of the signing, inked a deal for $1.7 million. Hernandez, who bats lefty, was noted as a rare combination of hit ability, power and speed, according to Charlie Gonzalez, the Astros scouting director.
On Wednesday, Hernandez made his professional debut playing in Single-A for the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. The outfielder went 3-for-5 with three singles and a run scored. He also had a batted ball at 108 MPH, though it went foul. A strong start to his professional career.
