Report: Astros to Call Up Rogelio Armenteros
Reports are out that the Astros will call up Rogelio Armenteros to add some depth to a recently overused bullpen ahead of this weekend’s series against Toronto. He will reportedly take the roster spot of Derek Fisher.
Astros are calling up RHP Rogelio Armenteros. Derek Fisher has been optioned. Due to all the extra innings, they are going back to 13 pitchers on the roster for this upcoming stretch of games.— Julia Morales (@JuliaMorales) June 13, 2019
The 24 year old Cuban right-hander has yet to throw a pitch in the Big Leagues, but is coming off a stellar 2018 season in which he racked up 134 strikeouts in 118 innings — good for 10.2 K/9 — in AAA. He continued his dominance after the season in the Dominican Winter League where he tossed 23 innings with a 1.17 ERA.
Armenteros is ranked as the 21st prospect in the Astros organization in the most recent Astros Future prospect rankings. He is not a hard thrower, but he has a solid arsenal of pitches that he moves around and mixes well to keep hitters off balance.
Let’s welcome Rogelio Armenteros to Houston!
