Teoscar Hernandez Called-Up By The Houston Astros
The Astros have been fortunate enough to have a farm system of players who have shot up the system and played at a high enough level basically forcing the Astros to give them a chance to see what they can do at baseball’s highest level. Since Carlos Gomez was designated for assignment a few days ago, it opens up yet another spot for the 10th rookie to see time in Houston this year. This go-around that spot will go to OF Teoscar Hernandez.
The Astros are bringing OF Teoscar Hernandez up to the majors. Hit .313/.365/.500 in 38 games in Triple-A. https://t.co/brWtVDUQfY

Teoscar followed Bregman up the same path as he started in AA with Bregman this season, and earned a Call-Up to AAA the same time as his teammate. The same time Bregman was lighting AAA pitching on fire, Teoscar was not too far behind as he destroyed the ball in AAA as well. In AA, Teoscar was batting .305/.384/.437 with 6 HR, 30 RBI, 19 2B, 32 BB, and 55 K. But since his promotion to AAA, his numbers have gone way up, with him hitting .313/.365/.500 with 4 HR, 23 RBI, 9 2B, 13 BB, and 25 K in half the number of ABs.
Teoscar is a great defensive outfielder and possesses great speed to be used in the field or on the bases. With the newly departed Carlos Gomez no longer manning CF, Teoscar should share some ABs in CF with Jake Marisnick. This is somewhat of an audition for Teoscar, as he could be vying for the starting CF job in 2017 if he plays well enough to warrant that kind of responsibility. He is also a strong fit for right field due to his huge arm (evident by 10 outfield assists).
Houston’s rookie hitters have struggled mightily this year out of the gate, so it’ll be interesting to see if Teoscar can break that trend and give the Astros not only something to be excited about for 2017, but also this season as the Astros attempt to take a Wild Card spot in late September to sneak back into the postseason in October. Congrats to Teoscar Hernandez on his Call-Up to the Houston Astros!
